How an AI agent can quote a 3D printed part with MCP

An AI agent can get printing estimates through PartPacket’s Streamable HTTP MCP endpoint at https://partpacket.com/mcp. Quoting needs no account. The agent needs an STL file you authorize it to send to fabrication providers.

Connect your MCP client

    }
  }
}

Client configuration varies. Use tools/list to inspect the current tool schemas. PartPacket exposes list_providers, create_quote, get_quote and request_order_review.

Ask for a comparison with clear inputs

Example instruction: “Quote this STL in millimeters, black PLA, FDM, quantity one, destination US. Compare provider subtotal, PartPacket fee, shipping, tax status, production time and estimate expiry. Ask me before requesting order review.”

The agent should first call list_providers, then create_quote with file_name, file_base64, process, material and quantity. Optional color and countryCode make the intended inputs explicit. Files must be at most 8 MiB. Keep the returned quoteAccessToken private; get_quote requires it.

Handle incomplete results

Only Slant 3D and Craftcloud FDM quotes are connected today. Provider failures can leave an incomplete comparison. Unknown shipping, tax or expiry must stay unknown. For example, our 19 October spacer quote returned Slant at $2.46 plus a $0.25 fee, but shipping was unpriced. That is not a delivered-price promise.

Order review is a separate step

The agent cannot pay or place a provider order through this server. If orderRequestsAvailable is true and you authorize it, request_order_review can record a saved quote selection and contact email for human review. Otherwise order review is unavailable. Final price and manufacturability still require review; experimental print feedback is not an engineering certification.

Try a quote

Upload your STL or read the full REST and MCP reference. See our file retention and privacy policy before uploading.
